Really terrific, precise monitor.

I moved to the Vue from a Sense Monitor. I found the Sense to be unreliable and too variable in the devices it was detecting. While the Vue takes a bit more effort to set up, especially with a sub-panel, it’s undeniably more consistent and precise. I’m a big fan.

Some more power visualizations would be nice (I do admittedly miss the live usage visualizations in Sense), but it’s really not a big deal and I appreciate the continued development from Emporia. :)

Gen 3

Love the VUE. But with a full panel plus solar plus a Tesla charging station, plus a standby generator; the Gen2 would have fit much better.

Vue 3 Home Monitor with mains and 8 circuits product review.

So I was looking for a simple fuse panel power usage monitor. I reviewed a few different ones online and settled on the Vue 3 from Emporium.

It was a straight forward install. I did go out and buy 2 extra breakers for my panel to power my Vue 3 ( I had lots of fun used space). You can power them in line with existing breakers but choose to just add 2. Plus this allows me power cycle the Vue 3 if it ever has a problem and not effect anything else.

The install instructions were straight forward. I am not an electrician but was able to safely install this monitor. I turn off the power to my house and ran all the cables. Vue 3 cables and probes to my selected circuits.

Setting up the APP was a breeze. I was even able to use my web browser and monitor my Vue 3 from my computer. It allowed me to put in my kWh rate for my area. It will will even allow split rate prices (Peak/Off Peak).

My main reason for buying this was to see if it will work for metering my 2 apartments attached to my garage/shop. This way I can charge the tenant only for what they use in power and not have them concerned that they are paying part of the shops bill

This appears like it will send an email/notifications to me at the beginning of each month with the total uses kWh for that monitor. That is all I really wanted. The circuit monitoring has been nice though. I did find that I should have bought the 16 circuit monitoring kit. Monitor the 8 I did have had been helpful in identifying some extra draw from in efficient lighting that I was unaware of.

I changed out all the light in one of rooms and saw a 200 watt drop in power usage. That adds up to $30+ per month based on my utilities rate in my area.

I also see my heated mats need to be turned off when there is no snow as they consume over 750 watts when powered on. That was a big surprise. So now I am ordering 8 more circuit monitors.

I do wish the application did more stuff. Like maybe notify me if it detects something out of the normal of my power usage. Like maybe leaving my heat mats on or a sudden spike in a circuit that hasn't been the normal pattern. Things like that would be nice.

But for the main purpose of monitoring my rental unit it will work great I think.

No additional 50A CT sensors are included in this kit to track individual circuit usage, but it provides the functionality needed to track your overall usage and leverage energy management features from the Emporia platform.

Easy to configure

In the back of your mind you worry about purchasing a product that is not completely configured for the product you are using it on. In my case the level 2 Emporia charger on the Chevrolet Equinox EV. I worried for nothing. After the electrician hard wired Emporia level 2 charger and flipped the breaker the lights came on.

Using the Emporia app on my smart phone the charge and phone paired using Bluetooth and the charger prompted me to connect to my homes wireless Wi-Fi. I then configured the car to accept the level 2 charging. I plugged the charger into the car and within 10 seconds the car was charging. The level e 11 kw charging adds about 32 miles of range an hour.

The reason I bought this charger was based on several you tube videos doing comparison tests. It is mid priced for chargers and there were no bad comments.

Great value!

The Level 2 (220vac) charger is much quicker than using a standard 120vac outlet. Not only is it quicker, but you can connect it to your wifi and program it for off-peak hour charging. We plug our Ionic 5 in after parking it in the garage and the unit delays charging until the programed time. You can also change the charging current if you have an existing outlet that's on a lower current breaker. You can find cheaper chargers, but they are charging with less current. That means longer charging times. I think the Emporia is the sweet-spot for value (price vs. features).

We went with the plug-in version. We had to have an electrician install a new circuit breaker and outlet to connect it. That cost an extra $150 to have the plug installed. The up side is we can unplug the unit and take it with us if we move.

The exact charger we needed

We were researching chargers and found this one had the most features for the money and charge rate. What we didn’t expect is that we had the option to either hard wire or install a plug. We opted for the hard wire. After using it for a couple months we are able to see our usage rate and they estimate your electrical cost based on where you live and who your electric company is.

Our car gives us the ability to control charge percentage and whatnot, but so does this charger. I am extremely happy with this purchase and would do it again.

Very satisfied

I purchased this device because it was Energy Star Certified and eligible for PSEG rebates. First, the two (minor) negatives. The cable is a little bulkier than most but it's not unmanagable. Also, the nozzle faces upwards when placed on the charger. Although it does have a cap, if you install it outdoors, it may become susceptable to water damage.

Mine is installed in the garage so it's really not an issue. While I had an electrician install the unit, the actual programming and setup was extremely user friendly. The software is more than acceptable.

I had one issue where the charging would begin immediately after plugging it in (instead of waiting for my programmed start time). I called customer service and my call was answered immediately by a helpful representative (I'm sorry I forgot her name, despite me asking twice, but it began with a "T"). She immediately found my account, upgraded my firmware and instructed me on what I needed to do. As I suspected, the Unit/Software was not defective. I was!

She could have not been more pleasant, accomodating and patient. For those who are interested, you must leave the app in the Pause mode and you need to program and Start AND Stop time. That solved the problem.

HIGHLY Recommend!

I 100% recommend this charger! My electrician initially hardwired it using a 50 amp breaker. When he swapped that out the next day with 60 amps, it took just a tap on the app to change the breaker. Setting it up on bluetooth and wifi was a breeze. The hardest part was probably remembering my password.

I love that the app shows not only how long it took to charge (roughly 3.5 hours for my RAV4 Prime) but also the cost per charge. The app is pretty intuitive and the unit itself looks nice and streamlined. At this price point and with all the features that I need, plus my utility company's rebate programs, this purchase is a no-brainer.

To top it off, their customer support is outstanding! Buy this charger, you won't regret it.
